The Photo Board Tumblr Theme

This theme is not really intended for everyday blogging use. It was designed for a very specific purpose: To display PHOTOS and LINKS in a way that makes perusing them, and "brainstorming" very easy. Other types of Tumblr posts will only appear in the Dashboard, not on the public-facing site.It has been tested, and works, in Firefox, Safari, and IE7.

For the record, this theme looks BEST in Safari. It utilizes a WebKit-only CSS style to generate the drop-shadows. I just didn't care enough to come up with more difficult ways of making that look good in Firefox or IE.

[important note: Because Tumblr restricts the maximum width of any uploaded image to 500px, this is the widest that an image may be displayed. Please write to Tumblr to request a higher maximum width if you’d like to see a theme that can take advantage of larger horizontal images.]

FEATURES:
When viewing the site, you have two size choices "large" and "small". All photos uploaded into the Tumblr get a default of 500px wide, and are sized to the small size using Javascript...

The layout is fluid, so you can resize your browser window and fill your whole screen with images. Looks especially good on a large monitor of course.

The captions and tags stay out of your way until you hover over the images.

You can temporarily remove photos from view using the "X" button above each photo. THEY ARE ONLY REMOVED FROM VIEW TEMPORARILY, they return upon page refresh.

You can sort the photos by dragging them into any order you want using the double-arrow button. (These also return to their normal order upon page refresh).

You can use keyboard shortcuts (access keys) to switch between large and small versions. CTRL+1/CTRL+2 (Mac) and ALT+1/ALT+2 (PC) will switch between large and small sizes.

Includes a great Print CSS stylesheet. So if you're viewing/sorting, you can quickly print out what you're seeing, and it won't include all the stuff you don't want to print.

Includes support for tagging. You can (and should) tag your photos, as each photo's tags appear in the Caption Hover area that appears when you roll-over each photo. Of course, you can then view pages of only a given tag...

Utilizes Mootools effects for the sorting, resizing, hovering, etc. Mootools is awesome. More info.

Tested in Safari, Firefox, and IE7

INSTALLATION:
1) Simply copy the entire contents of the file called "Copy into Custom HTML.txt" into the THEME tab of the Tumblr customize area.

2) Custom colors can be easily set in the Color tab of the customize area.

3) If you want to use your own custom background texture or image, just look for the line beginning with "background-image:" (near the top).

INSTRUCTIONS (suggested):
1) Tag everything. Be thorough. Each time you add a new photo or link, tag it. Separate your tags with commas, but don't be afraid to add as many as make sense. You can now tag things even from the Tumblr bookmarklet (under "advanced").

2) Attribute your sources. To do this, use the "Set a click-through link" rather than the caption area. This link will then be accessible via the little right-facing-arrow button above each image. This keeps your caption area uncluttered and free for your notes, thoughts, instructions, whatever.

3) Maximize your browser window when viewing.
